No. 5 - November 2023

Happy November Norse!

I'd like to take this opportunity to highlight 3 pieces of software that the district utilizes to facilitate communication and to help us provide resources to the parents and community members we serve.

Bound touts itself as "Software that brings your community together around your high school sports program." Roland-Story uses Bound for online ticketing, to register our students for sports and activities, manage an activities calendar, to store and report game and season statistics, as a communication platform, and more. Bound can even help your student athlete get started down the path of college recruitment.

There is a Bound app available for both iPhone and Android. In addition, they provide documentation to help parents to get the most out of Bound.

Canvas is one of the school's LMS (learning management system) used by teachers to facilitate online learning. Remember, online learning doesn't necessarily mean remote learning (as it did in 2020). Teachers use online learning to provide helpful articles, videos, slide decks, etc. that pertain to and help the student grasp the concept of daily lessons. Teachers can also push assignments, grade, and provide feedback to the students via Canvas.

Canvas Parent can be used by any Canvas user with an observer account and is available for both Android and iOS devices.

A Student Information System (or SIS) is a software solution that allows school to digitally store and manage student information more efficiently. We use PowerSchool to schedule students into classes, communicate grades, keep track of attendance, store historical transcripts, and much much more.  The involvement of a parent in a school's SIS is crucial for student success.

Parent access documentation is available on the PowerSchool website. In addition they do offer a parent app for both iPhone and Android.
